Dr [Martin] used antibodies against very late activation antigen (VLA) and found that they attach themselves to three nerve cell proteins that are identical to three subunits. VLA appears when lymphocytes are activated.

On décrit un anticorps monoclonal qui réagit avec les cellules lymphoïdes bêta humaines. L'anticorps B532 semble reconnaître un antigène d'activation sur les cellules B humaines. Cet antigène d'activation semble pouvoir être produit par l'infection par le virus d'Epstein-Barr et par la stimulation par des antigènes et des mitogènes mais est disparu sur les plasmocytes. Dans les ganglions lymphatiques normaux l'antigène est limité aux cellules des centres germinaux et à quelques cellules du manteau qui entoure des centres. L'antigène n'est pas présent sur les cellules T.
