English

Subject field(s)
  • Satellite Telecommunications
DEF

Technique using correlated observations of celestial or satellite radio sources by ground stations hundreds or thousands of kilometers apart for determining the precise position and movements of the sources or of the ground stations.

Domaine(s)
  • Télécommunications par satellite
DEF

OBS

Reproduit de "Titles, Names and Acronyms related to the activities of the International Oceanographic Commission of Unesco", avec l'autorisation de l'Unesco.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Range Measurements (Telecommunications)
  • Practical Astronomy
CONT

Determining the Earth's motion with reference to distant astronomical bodies (quasars) is principally achieved through Very Large Base Interferometry (VLBI) techniques based on simultaneous observation of quasi-stellar sources by an international network of radioastronomy observatories. ... Obviously, the motions of the Earth's interior cannot be measured directly and must be deduced from the analysis of surface deformations combined with high-precision space-based measurements of the Earth's gravity and magnetic fields.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures à distance (Télécommunications)
  • Astronomie pratique
CONT
