Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) or VLC (Visible Light Communication) is a new wireless communication technology which enables wireless data transmission through LED [light emitting diode] light. The technology is based on the ability of SSL (Solid State Lighting) systems to use LEDs flickering (invisible to human eyes) to create a binary code and to send data through optic waves. Data can be received by photodiode equiped devices within the area of LED light visibility.

lifi: La Fundación del Español Urgente (Fundéu BBVA), con el asesoramiento de la Real Academia Española, indica que el término "lifi" proviene de "LiFi", acrónimo de "light fidelity", y se recomienda escribirlo en minúsculas, por ser el nombre genérico, no propio, de un tipo de comunicación inalámbrica; sin resalte, ya que no es una forma que presente problemas en su adaptación al castellano, y sin guion, pues en español el guion no une partes de una voz ya lexicalizada.
