L'appareil est débarrassé de tous ses accessoires inutiles et emprisonné dans un réseau de «palonniers» qui, à leur tour, sont associés à plusieurs vérins hydrauliques. Les palonniers permettent de répartir proportionnellement ces forces le long de la cellule et des ailes de l'avion pour simuler les conditions réelles, tandis que les vérins hydrauliques commandés par un mini-ordinateur appliquent les forces auxquelles l'appareil est soumis en vol.
