Langue du groupe slave oriental parlée en Biélorussie, maintenant appelée République de Bélarus, par plus de 9 millions de locuteurs. Détaché du russe commun vers le XIIe-XIIIe siècle, le biélorusse fut la langue de l'administration du grand-duché de Lituanie du XIVe au XVIIe siècle. Depuis 1918, il est redevenu la langue officielle de la République de Biélorussie.
