Les atlas éoliens présentent les dispositions générales des gisements éoliens, mais ne peuvent en aucun cas servir d’outils de décision. Selon les propres experts du laboratoire national Risoe au Danemark, la meilleure précision que l’on puisse attendre des atlas éoliens est de l’ordre de 10 % sur les vitesses. Les énergies étant dans une relation cubique avec les vitesses, la précision sur les énergies est alors de l’ordre de 33 %.
