Le réseau mondial de radiosondage comprend de l'ordre de 850 stations effectuant entre deux et quatre lancers par jour. La France dispose de sept stations de ce type en métropole et de 12 dans les territoires d'Outre-Mer. De plus, la Météorologie Nationale a implanté des systèmes automatiques de radiosondage sur des navires marchands reliant régulièrement la métropole aux Antilles.
