Zinc minerals. Main source of zinc is sphalerite, but some smithsonite (calamine), hemimorphite, zincite, willemite and franklinite are mined. Main uses of the metal are in galvanizing, sheet zinc, die casting, pigments, dry batteries and alloys - brass, manganese bronze, German silver, etc.
