Cancer apparu chez un malade ayant eu un premier cancer primitif et chez qui survient, plus ou moins longtemps après le traitement, un autre cancer primitif dont on soupçonne une origine iatrogène.

OBS

Le cancer secondaire s'oppose donc à celui de métastase qui désigne une seconde localisation d'un même cancer, et à second cancer qui indique l'apparition d'un second cancer primitif chez un sujet qui a déjà eu un premier cancer primitif sans que ce second cancer soit nécessairement causé par le traitement du premier.

OBS

Selon certains auteurs, le cancer secondaire est un cancer métastatique.
