Les termes qui appartiennent à la même famille que le terme piège fournissent le déverbatif piégeage, qui désigne l'action de piéger et le verbe piéger lui-même. On ne peut former ces composés à partir du terme puits, son synonyme. C'est cependant ce dernier qu'on retrouve le plus souvent dans les textes. Le terme puits, par son opposition très nette au terme réservoir, joue un rôle très important pour les locuteurs du domaine de la protection de la couche d'ozone quand ils veulent indiquer si la disparition du polluant est définitive ou temporaire.
