The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) contribution to NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission is an advanced laser system known as the OSIRIS-REx laser altimeter (OLA). OLA is a hybrid of the lidar on the CSA's weather station aboard the Phoenix Mars Lander and an instrument flown on the 2005 US Air Force eXperimental Satellite System-11 (XSS-11).

La contribution de l'Agence spatiale canadienne(ASC) à la mission OSIRIS-REx de la NASA est un laser sophistiqué appelé «altimètre laser d’OSIRIS-REx»(OLA). Il s’agit d’un hybride du lidar de la station météorologique de l'ASC embarquée sur l'atterrisseur martien Phœnix et d’un instrument envoyé dans l'espace en 2005 à bord de l'eXperimental Satellite System-11(XSS-11) de la force aérienne américaine.

«OSIRIS-REx» est un acronyme pour «Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security - Regolith Explorer», soit en français «origines, interprétation des spectres, détermination des ressources, sécurité - explorateur de régolithe» (traduction littérale fournie à titre d’information seulement).

OLA : Même si grammaticalement correct, éviter l’usage de «l’OLA» dans des textes et utiliser plutôt «l’instrument OLA».
