Class A British engineering bricks crush at stresses above 69 N/mm² (10 000 psi), class B at stresses above 48 N/mm² (7000 psi). ... The maximum water absorption for these bricks is limited to 7% for class B and 4 1/2% for class A; in fact the latter are sometimes used as a damp course. 2, record 1, English, - engineering%20brick

Engineering bricks. Often blue in colour, these are high quality bricks with precise dimensions and high compressive strength. They can be used in foundations, retaining walls and other structures -sometimes in conjunction with steel reinforcement. They have a low water absorbency which enables them to be used as bases and capping courses to bricks of higher absorbency. Today, their distinctive appearance has found favour with architects and blue engineering bricks are often used for purely aesthetic reasons. 2, record 2, English, - blue%20engineering%20brick

2, record 2, French, - brique%20bleue%20%C3%A0%20haute%20r%C3%A9sistance
