La norme télévisée allemande, appelée PAL(Phase Alternate Line), a été développée dans les années 60 par le professeur Walter Bruch. Outre l'affichage de 625 lignes par image, la norme PAL se caractérise par une correction des variations de ton qui résultent d’erreurs de phase lors de la transmission. Cette correction est réalisée en inversant le vecteur couleur de référence sur des lignes en alternance(d’où le nom). La couleur est obtenue à partir du signal YUV. Les images en couleur sont le résultat d’une composante «luminosité»(luminance=Y) et de deux signaux de chrominance alignés et filtrés(=U, V). Cela constitue le signal composite FBAS : deux informations, transmises simultanément par l'intermédiaire d’une ligne, sont séparées lors de l'affichage. Les éléments pour les faisceaux à électrons sont extraits de ce signal devant le tube cathodique. 1, record 2, French, - signal%20composite%20FBAS
