An oceanographic mooring consists of a long line or cable with an anchor at one end, a float at the other, and instruments attached to the line in between or to a float at the surface. These allow researchers to measure such properties as water velocity, salinity, and temperature in several places and for long periods of time. They also allow scientists to explore the complex interactions between the ocean and atmosphere that are difficult to monitor from satellites. 2, record 1, English, - oceanographic%20mooring%20system

2, record 1, French, - mouillage%20oc%C3%A9anographique

In a process called "molecular combing", DNA molecules attached at one end to a solid surface were extended and aligned by a receding air-water interface and left to dry on the surface. Molecular combing was observed to extend the length of the bacteriophage Lambda DNA molecule to 21.5+/-0.5 micrometers (unextended length, 16.2 micrometers). 1, record 3, English, - molecular%20combing
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
With the combing process, it was possible to: (i) extend a chromosomal Escherichia coli DNA fragment (10^6 base pairs) and (ii) detect a minute quantity of DNA (10^3 molecules). These results open the way for a faster physical mapping of the genome and for the detection of small quantities of target DNA from a population of molecules. 1, record 3, English, - molecular%20combing

3, record 3, French, - peignage%20mol%C3%A9culaire

A new value has (...) to be selected for D', and the entire procedure of determining the elastic line has to be repeated for the new depth until a value of D' is found at which the elastic line will intersect the vertical at anchor level. This is the so-called "elastic-line method". It is extremely time-consuming and, for that reason, is seldom used in practice. 1, record 4, English, - elastic%2Dline%20method

1, record 4, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20de%20la%20ligne%20%C3%A9lastique
