Boxing Day is a holiday observed on December 26 in the U.K. and some Commonwealth countries, particularly Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Boxing Day originated in England as the day employers would give their staff Christmas presents, called "boxes," to celebrate the season. Boxing Day is now known in Canada as a day when stores open their doors early and discount prices on items ranging from clothing to technology to appliances.
