Scientists are investigating tunicate a non-native marine species that is threatening the Island shellfish industry. Like green crab the clubbed tunicate has made its way up the East Coast of North America and is now found in the Brudenell, Montague and Murray rivers, where it is invading mussel spat beds.

Identification : ascidie solitaire d'environ 12 cm de haut caractérisée par la présence d'un pédoncule étroit qui occupe près du tiers de la hauteur totale. Les deux siphons qui sont situés au sommet présentent des marques radiaires (parfois difficiles à voir) de couleur pourpre. La tunique très coriace présente une surface de couleur brunâtre irrégulièrement plissée et mamelonnée. Elle est souvent couverte d'organismes divers (algues, bryozoaires etc.).
