L'adjectif «asymptote» cooccurre avec «cercle», «cône», «courbe», «droite», «forme», «plan», «point». Par contre, «asymptotique» se combine de préférence avec «approche», «comportement», «développement», «direction», «estimation», «ligne», «limite», «raccordement», «solution», «trajectoire» et «valeur». On dit «être asymptote à quelque chose», «être asymptotiquement stable ou instable», et «tendre ou converger asymptotiquement vers un attracteur».
