Le déterminant mineur est un terme ambigu car une substance, même si elle est à l'état de traces dans l'atmosphère, peut représenter un élément vital pour la protection de la vie sur terre. C'est d'ailleurs le cas de l'ozone. Son rôle est majeur mais, par sa quantité très faible, il est minoritaire.
