Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) or Canadian Sport for Life and No Accidental Champions are initiatives of Sport Canada that focus on the general framework of athlete development with special reference to growth, maturation and development. They set out a progressive pathway that recognizes the distinct phases of physical, mental, cognitive and emotional development based on the maturation or development of an individual rather than chronological age. LTAD addresses the needs of those who are able-bodied and those who have a disability.

Le [Développement à long terme du participant/athlète (DLTP/A)], qui regroupe «Au Canada, le sport c'est pour la vie» et «Devenir champion n'est pas une question de chance», est une initiative de Sport Canada qui repose sur le cadre général du développement de l'athlète qui intègre la croissance, la maturation et le développement. Il dresse un parcours progressif qui tient compte des phases distinctes du développement physique, mental, cognitif et émotionnel, en fonction de la maturation ou du développement d'une personne plutôt que de l'âge chronologique. Le [DLTP/A] aborde les besoins des personnes sans handicap et des personnes ayant un handicap.
