NATO has a vast network of support staff. The International Military Staff (IMS) is responsible for making the high ranking political and military decisions a reality. A General or Flag Officer of a Member State elected by the Military Committee heads the IMS. This officer, the Director of the International Military Staff (DIMS), is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the IMS. The IMS consists of military personnel who have been assigned to NATO to work for the collective good of the Alliance and not their own country.
