Es un programa […], por lo general gratuito, que nos permite visualizar páginas web a través de Internet […] además posibilita acceder a otros recursos de información alojados también en servidores web, como pueden ser videos, imágenes, audio y archivos XML. El navegador interpreta el código, HTML generalmente, en el que está escrita la página web y lo presenta en pantalla permitiendo al usuario interactuar con su contenido y navegar hacia otros lugares de la red mediante enlaces o hipervínculos.

Un navegador es un programa instalado en la computadora que nos permite visitar sitios web, como por ejemplo Internet Explorer o Safari. No confundir con "buscador" o "motor de búsqueda" que es un programa que se encarga de encontrar sitios web relacionados con el tema que se busca, como por ejemplo Google o Bing.

navegador de Internet: Internet y Web, a pesar de ser conceptos muy próximos, no son sinónimos. La Web es un sistema comprendido dentro de Internet y usa ésta como medio de difusión. El uso muchas veces no reconoce esta diferencia y emplea estos conceptos indistintamente.

navegador web; explorador web: El Diccionario panhispánico de dudas, de la Real Academia Española, indica que “web” se escribe en minúscula cuando se emplea como adjetivo. En cuanto al número, aunque es frecuente el plural invariable (sitios web), recomienda también la forma “webs” (los sitios webs).
