Une protéine qui se trouve dans la circulation sanguine et qui joue un rôle important dans le processus de la coagulation. Le facteur Xa, une autre protéine sanguine, transforme la prothrombine (facteur II) en thrombine. La thrombine, en retour, assure la continuité de la réaction en chaîne de la coagulation. Sans prothrombine, le processus s'interrompt.
