Marula is one of the most commonly utilized fruits in southern Africa. It is a mild, soft, fruit the size of a hazelnut.

Le fruit du marula est proche de la mangue, il est de couleur orange et de forme irrégulière (4 cm de diamètre) avec une peau très épaisse. Sa cueillette s'effectue de la fin de l'été à l'automne. La graine, située à l'intérieur du fruit, est entourée d'une coquille extérieure dure contenant 2 ou 3 amandes. L'huile est extraite de ces amandes qui contiennent entre 55 et 60 % d'huile.
