The Access Working Group (AWG) was established by the Treasury Board Internet Advisory Committee (parent committee) on August 1, 1997 to engage in collaborative activities between government, private-sector and community organizations that have a stake in ensuring equitable access to information and services, especially for, but not limited to persons with disabilities, for the purpose of providing input to Government of Canada (GoC) policy making.

Le 1er août 1997, le Comité consultatif du Conseil du Trésor chargé d'Internet (comité principal) a mis sur pied le Groupe de travail sur l'accessibilité (GTA) dans le but de participer aux activités entreprises conjointement par le gouvernement, des organismes du secteur privé et des organismes communautaires qui ont pour but de veiller à ce que tous, plus particulièrement les personnes handicapées, mais pas uniquement celles-ci, aient un accès équitable à l'information et aux services, et puissent ainsi participer au processus d'élaboration de politiques du gouvernement du Canada.
