Subject field(s)

  • Social Problems
  • Digestive Tract
DEF

Abnormally increased blood pressure in the portal venous system, a frequent complication of cirrhosis of the liver.

CONT

Swelling of the liver puts pressure on the blood vessels that pass through it, causing the pressure to build up within the vessels. This condition is known as portal hypertension, and in turn may contribute to a swelling of the blood vessels in the esophagus.

DEF
