On donne ainsi au matériau un nouvel arrangement moléculaire que l'on fixe par refroidissement brusque. [...] Les propriétés optiques [...], physiques [...], mécaniques [...] sont souvent améliorées par ce traitement qui correspond en somme à l'étirage-trempage dans la métallurgie.
