A human antibody produced by plants.

CONT

Plantibody production is straightforward: scientists insert the gene for an antibody into a disarmed virus, which is taken up by a plant's leaves. Using the new DNA [deoxyribonucleic acid], the plant builds the human proteins.

L'équipe de Kevin Whaley, de l'université Johns Hopkins à Baltimore, vient toutefois de démontrer qu'un anticorps monoclonal produit par des plans de soja pouvait être, chez la souris un rempart efficace contre le virus de l'herpes génital (HSV2). Dans un premier temps, les scientifiques ont comparé in vitro l'activité de l'anticorps produit par les plans de soja transgéniques, ou «planticorps», à celle du même anticorps produit par une lignée de cellules de mammifères en culture.
