Peauss. Le plus souvent, le cuir est divisé en deux épaisseurs. On obtient ainsi deux feuilles : la fleur, correspondant au côté poil et d'épaisseur régulière; la croûte, correspondant au côté chair et conservant les irrégularités d'épaisseur de la peau avant refendage. Le refendage est toujours pratiqué sur le cuir humide. Il peut s'effectuer sur le cuir tanné de façon relativement aisée.
