On May 28, 1998, the Minister of Health launched a new approach to address the HIV epidemic in Canada. The Canadian Strategy on HIV/AIDS grew out of an unprecedented, stakeholder-led, consultation in the fall of 1997. This process was led by the National HIV/AIDS Stakeholder Group, comprising persons living with HIV/AIDS, at-risk groups, Aboriginal communities, community-based organizations, researchers, health care professionals, the private sector and provincial and territorial governments.
