ilot : terme surtout employé en France, qui est un dérivé d'«ilotage» qui désigne une «division d'une ville, d'un quartier, en unités administratives (ilots) placées chacune sous la surveillance d'un policier». En général, la patrouille dans le «secteur de garde», le «secteur de patrouille» et le «secteur de surveillance» se fait à pied. Dans les autres cas, la patrouille s'effectue à pied, en automobile ou à motocyclette.
