Part of the deflation system. Located at the top of the balloon, it is used for effecting a complete deflation on landing and also during flight to vent a limited amount of hot air as a means for controlling vertical ascent or descent. In fact, it is also a type of rip panel.

Like a parachute, with circular canopy and shroud lines, it plugs a circular opening in the top of the balloon. A line from the base of shroud lines allows it to be pulled downwards to allow release of hot air. Can be used in place of the rip panel and vent.
