A test technician helps perform key diagnostic and quality tests on their company's products. On an average day, test technicians may respond to error messages, gather data for reports, and perform other routine quality-control tasks, depending on their workplace's needs. Since they often work in a manufacturing setting, some physical labor may be required for installing testing hardware, measuring data, and light product-fabrication work. However, the core of their job is running diagnostic tests and performing routine troubleshooting of system issues. This may require the ability to interpret complex documents such as technical schematics and follow precise instructions well. Test technicians often work in the production of electronic equipment, as well as automotive, defense, and aerospace products. A wide variety of manufacturing jobs may employ a small number of test technicians as well.
