L'accumulation de liquides dans les recoins de la structure peut être dangereuse pour celle-ci : incendie ou corrosion. Cette accumulation ne peut être empêchée, ne serait-ce que la condensation. Un drainage de structure est prévu sur tous les avions. Il consiste en des trous dans toutes les zones de l'avion ou des liquides tels que carburant, huile, eau, acide peuvent s'accumuler. Dans certains cas, des tubes, canaux ou barrages sont installés pour canaliser l'écoulement vers ces trous. Les orifices d'évacuation (dans le fuselage) sont fermés par des clapets à soupape qui s'ouvrent quand le fuselage n'est plus pressurisé. Les autres orifices (dans voilure, empennages, etc...) sont fermés par des clapets à bille, clapets-bafles, clapets à ressort, etc...
