Modifications have improved performance, reliability and maintainability. These include the rectangular, zero-scarf front nozzles, which give 200 lb (91 kg) more thrust (and help circulation round the flaps), a stronger first-stage HP compressor vane, and improved HP turbine cooling.

On a notamment adopté des tuyères avant à section rectangulaire sans biais, ce qui s'est traduit par une augmentation de 90kg de la poussée et par une amélioration de la circulation d'air autour des volets; on a également renforcé les aubes du premier étage du compresseur HP et amélioré le refroidissement de la turbine HP.
