VALEUR METALLIQUE [1 record]

Record 1 2007-07-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Numismatics
  • Coins and Bank Notes
DEF

The actual market value of the metal coined in a metallic numismatic object as distinguished from the face value.

OBS

Because most Canadian circulation coins were minted out of silver up until 1968, their intrinsic value is worth more today than their face value. Since 1968, nickel has been used instead of silver to mint most Canadian circulation coins. Thus, the intrinsic value of these nickel coins, dated 1968 on, is worth less today than their face value.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Numismatique
  • Pièces de monnaie et billets de banque
DEF
