Une nouvelle méthode de vente vient de faire son apparition en Grande-Bretagne : le «buy back», que l'on pourrait traduire par "l'achat gratuit". Enfin, presque. Le principe est simple : tout acheteur d'un bien durable déterminé (une machine à laver par exemple) se voit proposé d'être remboursé du montant de son achat après un délai de dix ans quel que soit l'état du produit. Une machine achetée 3 000 F sera donc remboursée 3 000 F dans dix ans. Bien sûr, entre-temps l'inflation aura grignoté une fraction du pouvoir d'achat de ces 3 000 F (40 % environ pour une hausse annuelle des prix de 3,5 %). L'affaire reste intéressante. Tellement que les ventes des produits ainsi promotionnés ont, paraît-il, doublé dans les magasins ayant pratiqué cette méthode de vente.
