Meningeal worm or brain worm has been transferred from the genus Pneumostrongylus to Parelaphostrongylus hence is now known as Parelaphostrongylus tenuis. This species is a slender, delicate roundworm found in the cranial cavity of cervids. The white-tailed deer is the normal host of P. tenuis. 4, record 1, English, - meningeal%20worm

Peu de maladies existent chez le caribou, mais l'infection par le ver des méninges (Parelaphostrongylus tenuis) est celle qui retient le plus d'attention. Le cerf de Virginie est considéré comme l'hôte normal de ce parasite. Le maintien du parasite dans l'environnement se fait par la présence des larves excrétées qui poursuivent leur cycle vital en infectant plusieurs espèces d'escargots terrestres et de limaces.
