Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Named in honour of Swedish physicist Anders J. Angström(1814-1874).... It equals 10-10 metre, 10-8 centimetre, 10-4 micron, or 10-1 millimicron. Such ultramicroscopic distances as the dimensions of atoms, molecules, unit cells and short wavelengths are expressed in angstroms. 2, record 1, English, - angstrom

Both positive and negative electrons reside together within the atom, and are complementary to one another. Recently the name proton has been suggested for the positive electron, so as to distinguish it from the negative electron. Beta particles are high-velocity electrons(negatively charged) or positrons(positively charged). In actual measurement, the viscosity coefficient of a material is obtained from the ratio of shearing stress to shearing rate. This assumes the ratio to be constant and independent of the shearing stress, a condition which is satisfied only by Newtonian fluids. Consequently, in all other cases, values obtained are apparent and represent one point of the flow curve. In the CGS system, the viscosity coefficient is expressed in poises, i. e. in dyne seconds per square centimetre, and in the International System of units in pascal seconds. 2, record 13, English, - viscosity%20coefficient

2, record 13, French, - coefficient%20de%20viscosit%C3%A9

An anti-bird roosting device for protecting an area, comprising at least a pair of cooperating base elements mounted on the area to be protected, and a plurality of projecting spikes, supported on the base elements and projecting away therefrom into a space above the area to be protected. The spikes are provided in a pattern of interspersed combinations of vertical, obtuse and acute angle-forming projections, in a high spike density that prevents roosting in the protected space. Thus, each point in the area to be protected is defended by more than one spike, each spike coming from a different direction, so as to cross-defend each other, creating a perimeter envelope defense of the air volume surrounding the base elements. Each device is easily and inexpensively prepared as a continuous mesh, whose dimensions can be constructed in standard sizes or in accordance with the needs of the user. The element diameter is typically approximately two millimeters. The small element diameter makes the entire device hard to see from a distance so that it does not detract from the building’s aesthetics. 1, record 22, English, - anti%2Dbird%20roosting%20device

Under contract from the Canadian Space Agency(CSA), the Canadian company, Kinetic Sciences Inc.(KSI), developed a proximity sensor that can provide both image features and range data very near to the surface of the sensor. Because the sensor works without using conventional lenses, it reduces the potential for distorting the image... An important need in many robotics systems is to obtain proximity measurements-which establish how close one object is to another-of the features of an object as it is approached at a close range by the finger tips or robot rippers’. In this situation normal visual sensing tends to be obscured, and can prevent the robot from properly grasping objects or completing tasks. What was required and developed by KSI was a ear-touch proximity sensor that could provide detailed information on the distance and orientation of one object with respect to another for objects between 1 centimetre and 1 millimetre away from the finger tip of the robot. 2, record 35, English, - proximity%20sensor

The surface of the grinding rolls may be either corrugated or smooth. Break rolls are always corrugated with the grooves running in a spiral along the length of the roll. When the rolls are turning, the corrugations cross each other and this imparts a cutting and shearing action to the material between them. The slower roll tends to hold the stock(whole or partly broken kernels), while the faster roll scrapes endosperm from it. The number of corrugations increases with successive breaking stages. The rolls used for breaking the wheat, that is the first break rolls, have 4 to 5 corrugations per centimetre of roll circumference whereas the last break passage may be 11 to 12 corrugations per centimetre. 1, record 40, English, - corrugated

In the grading system, the break "chop" is segregated into purifier stocks of a specific particle size range. The narrower the range, the more precise and effective is the work of the purifier. The largest particles of endosperm originating in the first three break passages are too large for immediate inclusion in the finished semolina and are passed to the sizing rolls. These rolls have very fine corrugations, up to 20 per centimetre. They were built with 5. 1 by 15. 2 centimetre wooden planks and 5. 1 by 10. 2 centimetre wooden planks. The 2 x 6's were placed flat side up, one on top of each other and securely nailed with spikes to give strength. This procedure was used for the lower part of the elevator; 2 x 4's were then used in a similar manner until the top of the elevator was reached. This method of construction became known as cribbing. 1, record 44, English, - cribbing%20method

1, record 44, French, - technique%20de%20construction%20en%20caisson
