The increased emphasis on Acadian affairs made the government and elected officials more aware of the presence and importance of the French-speaking population in Nova Scotia. 2004 was declared "Acadia Year", and the Acadian flag will fly in front of the provincial legislature all year long. A bill was tabled officially declaring August 15 as a provincial holiday for Acadians.

L'année a été déclarée «Année de l'Acadie» et le drapeau acadien sera hissé toute l'année devant la législature de cette province. Un projet de loi a été déposé pour déclarer officiellement le 15 août Fête provinciale des Acadiens et des Acadiennes.
