The Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, signed in 1993, is a land claims agreement between the Inuit of the Nunavut Settlement Area as represented by the Tungavik Federation of Nunavut and Her Majesty The Queen in Right of Canada. It is by far the largest of the four land claims agreements reached between Canadian governments and the Inuit. It covers one-fifth of the Canadian land mass, an area twice the size of Ontario. The Nunavut Land Claims Agreement for the first time explicitly recognized "the contributions of Inuit to Canada's history, identity and sovereignty in the Arctic."
