The Department of Advanced Education was established June 2, 1972. Name changed in 1973 to Alberta Advanced Education. Amalgamated June 25, 1975 with part of Alberta Manpower and Labour to form Alberta Advanced Education and Manpower. Name reverted November 13, 1982 to Alberta Advanced Education when Alberta Advanced Education and Manpower split to form Alberta Advanced Education and Alberta Manpower. On May 25, 1999, the Premier of Alberta announced a government reorganization designed to refocus government priorities and improve efficience. As part of this reorganization, Alberta Learning was created. Alberta Learning takes in Alberta Education and the advanced education part of Advanced Education and Career Development (AECD). Human Resources and Employment receives the career development portion of AECD.
