Méthode qui a pour objet de mieux rapprocher les produits et les charges en imputant une charge estimative (par exemple les créances douteuses et les frais relatifs à des garanties) à l'exercice au cours duquel les produits correspondants sont constatés. La même somme est portée au crédit d'un compte dont le solde est déduit de la rubrique correspondante de l'actif (par exemple le compte Provision pour créances douteuses), ou encore au crédit d'un compte de passif (par exemple le compte Provision pour garanties).
