Located in New York City, the American Stock Exchange is the second largest of the securities exchanges in the United States. Prior to 1921, the exchange was known as the New York Curb Exchange - hence its popular name as the Curb. Both ASE and AMEX are commonly used as abbreviations for the American Stock Exchange. Listed stocks, bonds, and options are traded on the AMEX.
