Dans les souffleries à arc, l'énergie est fournie par un arc électrique, jaillissant entre deux électrodes, dans une chambre préalablement remplie du fluide à échauffer.

OBS

Dans ce type d'installation, au lieu de faire passer de l'air comme dans une soufflerie classique, on chauffe l'air au moyen d'un arc électrique jusqu'à une température suffisante pour qu'il dégage du plasma.
