On peut distinguer 2 types [de races de dindons]: 1) Races de grande taille. Telles que le "Bronzé à large poitrine" (Broad Breasted Bronze) et le "Grand Blanc" (Large White). Ce sont des animaux de forte taille: les mâles adultes pèsent de 15 à 20 kg, les femelles de 10 à 12. (...) 2) Races de format léger. Le type principal des races de format léger est le "Blanc de Beltsville", animal dont la conformation est excellente. Adultes, les mâles pèsent de 8 à 9 kg, les femelles aux environs de 5 kg. Cette race a été créée aux Etats-Unis vers 1940 pour la production de petites dindes à rôtir.
