Tout organisme est soumis dans le milieu où il vit aux actions simultanées d'agents climatiques, édaphiques, chimiques ou biotiques très variés. Nous appellerons facteur écologique tout élément du milieu susceptible d'agir directement sur les êtres vivants au moins durant une phase de leur cycle de développement. Cette définition élimine des éléments tels que l'altitude ou la profondeur.
