Fecha así conocida, lunes 19 de octubre de 1987, remembrando el "martes negro" del 29 de octubre de 1929 en que se inició la caída de los índices de la Bolsa de Nueva York, con 22% y 12% respectivamente. La diferencia estriba en que el "crack" del lunes, propició una ola de bajas en las principales bolsas del mundo provocadas por las alzas en el "prime rate" y problemas bélicos entre Estados Unidos e Irán en el Golfo Pérsico, así como por el excesivo déficit presupuestal de Estados Unidos.
