Tras la regulación de la FCC, los emisores tendrán la oportunidad en el futuro de incluir información adicional llamada "Broadcast Flag" ("bandera de emisión") en sus retransmisiones, para proteger el contenido frente a la retransmisión indiscriminada a través de Internet. La tecnología de Philips y HP ha sido aprobada por la FCC en una primera ronda para estar entre las primeras tecnologías que se autoricen para la grabación de contenido marcado con la Broadcast Flag.
