La piéride du chou (imported cabbage worm - Pieris rapae) occasionne des dommages importants dans les cultures de crucifères presque partout dans le monde. Au Québec, elle a été introduite accidentellement de l'Europe en 1860. Une autre espèce de piéride, que l'on ne retrouve heureusement pas ici, la grande piéride du chou (Pieris brassicae) est d'une importance économique dans les pays européens.
