The Canadian Bioethics Society was founded in 1988 by the amalgamation of the Canadian Society of Bioethics and the Canadian Society for Medical Bioethics. At this time, it has a membership of approximately 600, composed of health care administrators, lawyers, nurses, philosophers, physicians, theologians, and others concerned with the ethical and humane dimensions of health care.
